Studied Landscape Architecture at Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh College of Art, 1977-1982
Andrew formed Grant Associates in 1997 to explore the emerging frontiers of landscape architecture within sustainable development. His approach is driven by a fascination with creative ecology and the promotion of quality and innovation in project work. He has built up experience in all scales and types of projects from sub-regional planning to the detailing of the smallest piece of new landscapes. He is a member of CABE Space and the South West Regional Design Panel.

Keith French BA (Hons), Dip LA (dist), CMLI

Studied Landscape Architecture at Leeds Polytechnic, 1987-1992
Since joining Grant Associates in 1997, Keith has worked on a variety of large-scale landscape and urban design projects, particularly in respect of design development, project coordination, detail design, procurement and implementation. Keith became a Director of Grant Associates in 2002 and has a particular interest in combining innovation and creative ecology in landscape architecture. He is currently Project Director for Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, the masterplan and detail design of the public realm strategy for Middlehaven in Middlesbrough, the masterplan and development of St Paul's School, and Newlands Common in Waterlooville.

Peter Chmiel BA (Hons), Dip LA (Hons), CMLI

Studied Landscape Architecture at Greenwich University, 1982-1987
Peter joined Grant Associates in 1997, bringing with him expert experience in project coordination, detail design, procurement, implementation, and landscape maintenance and management. Peter takes the lead role on the horticultural management of projects and has built up strong working relationships with many leading UK and European tree nurseries. In particular, Peter's combined knowledge of construction and programming and horticulture has ensured the successful delivery of many national and international landscape planting schemes. He has been Project Director for a number of sustainable housing developments, education schemes, cultural and heritage projects and renaissance schemes incorporating public realm strategies.

Andrew Haines BA (Hons), Dip LA (Hons), CMLI

Andrew joined Grant Associates in 2000, following two years in New Zealand working on ecological design, implementation and management projects, including landscape restoration and habitat creation. Andrew has worked on a variety of projects since joining the practice, including a major mixed-use harbourside development in Bristol (Project Landscape Architect); Rolls Royce Assembly Plant, Chichester; Building Schools for the Future Bid, East London; new community school, Camden, London; and new student housing at the University of Bath. Andrew is particularly interested in the creative and collaborative design process with architects and artists and enjoys the technical challenges presented at detail design.

David Finch BA (Hons), BArch, Dip LA, RIBA, CMLI

Originally trained as an architect, David worked in London on a number of significant residential and commercial projects. He went on to study Landscape Architecture at Kingston-upon-Thames, pursuing his interest in the design of urban spaces and the integration of nature within cities. David joined Grant Associates in 2003, where he has enjoyed the challenges of creating urban spaces with locally distinctive identities in which people and nature can live and play. David is currently involved in the Gardens by the Bay project in Singapore, acting as Package Leader for the Main Gardens. Earlier projects include New Islington, Manchester.

Tim Osborn BA (Hons), Dip LA, CMLI

Studied Landscape Architecture at Manchester Polytechnic, 1984-1989
Tim joined Grant Associates in 2006. He has a strong design background and has enjoyed many design competition successes in the UK and abroad. Tim has extensive experience of masterplanning, urban design, construction on site and practice management. During his career he has been responsible for delivering a wide range of projects across the UK, including major public realm and regeneration projects in Belfast, Manchester, Birmingham and Brighton. Tim is currently leading the landscape team working on the regeneration of Park Hill in Sheffield for Urban Splash and and is acting as Package Leader for the Cooled Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

Carly Lamb MA (Hons), CMLI

Carly joined Grant Associates in 2003 after studying in Edinburgh. Keen to continue explorative work in contemporary landscape architecture from her studies, she has since worked on a wide variety of projects of different scales. Projects include the detail design of the Stirling Prize-winning Accordia residential development in Cambridge with architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, the design and implementation of the National Trust Headquarters in Swindon, and the design and implementation of Osprey Quay coastal regeneration project. She has recently been working on the new headquarters for the Woodland Trust and the redevelopment of St. Paul's School in London. Carly was part of the team for the winning Singapore Gardens by the Bay masterplan and is now working in Singapore on the implementation of the project.

James Clarke BA (Hons), LArch, Dip B LArch

James joined Grant Associates in 2003, following two years in the Middle East working on a variety of schemes which entailed masterplanning, detail design, project implementation and site supervision. Prior to that, he worked for a year in Manchester. James has enjoyed working on a wide range of projects since joining the practice, including Middlehaven in Middlesbrough and Runnymede Civic Council Offices in Surrey with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. He is currently involved in the Gardens by the Bay project in Singapore, acting as Package Leader for the Supertrees. Special interests include hand-drawn and digital visualisation techniques, and incorporating contemporary trends and humour into urban settings through a collaborative approach with architects, engineers and artists.

Clare Hobart MA(Hons), CMLI

Claire joined Grant Associates in 2001 and is currently on maternity leave. Her work has included detail design and implementation of completed schemes such as the Rolls Royce assembly plant in Chichester, the 2008 Stirling Prize-winning Accordia residential development in Cambridge with architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, redevelopment of the central dockside at Bristol Harbourside, new play areas and revitalised open space at Colley Park in Sheffield, and exemplar school John Madejski Academy in Reading. She is currently working on Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, acting as Package Leader for Infrastructure. Claire is still driven by the thrill of seeing initial ideas brought to life to become valuable cherished spaces.

Mark Fletcher BLA (Hons), CMLI

Mark previously worked in Oxford on several high-quality urban regeneration projects. Since joining Grant Associates in March 2006 he has worked on Bridge Learning Campus in Bristol (part of the Building Schools for the Future initiative) and John Madejski Academy in Reading, both of which are innovative new-build designs in deprived areas. Recent projects include the Olympic VeloPark and the Middlehaven development in Middlesbrough. Mark is currently involved in Gardens by the Bay, Singapore. Mark has a depth of experience in detail design and implementation, and is interested in sustainable design and incorporating historical narratives into contemporary public open spaces.

Tamasine Scott MA (Hons), LArch, CMLI

Tamasine rejoined Grant Associates in September 2006, after working as a landscape architect in London on a diverse range of projects including a lido park, public realm in central London and strategic competitions. Tamasine had previously worked with Grant Associates for three years on a number of projects, from masterplans and regeneration strategies to schools, parks and bespoke street furniture. Her professional experience spans from conceptual design through to construction, with playful idea development, innovative communication techniques and refined detail design. Tamasine is motivated in particular by the creation of distinctive spaces that integrate and reveal their underlying natural systems.

Aymara Izquiel-Langley BA (Hons), MSILA

Aymara joined Grant Associates in 2008 to work as site resident landscape architect at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. She has over 20 years experience working in Asia and has been involved in a diverse range of projects covering masterplanning, detail design, project implementation and site supervision. Prior to moving to Singapore in 2001 Aymara was based in Hong Kong where her work included public and private housing masterplans, government funded initiatives for new parks and public open space, and highways and infrastructural projects.

Danny Nagle MA (DESS), MA (Hons) L Arch, CMLI

Danny moved to Bath to work for Grant Associates in 2007, following two years working in Leamington Spa. Prior to this, he spent five years in Paris, where he studied town planning and worked on a range of landscape projects including the rehabilitation of Luye River in Gap and a 2km-long park on the banks of the Seine. From these large-scale hydrological projects, the importance of rainwater management as an attractive structural element has formed an intrinsic part of Danny's projects. Danny is currently working on several residential projects such as Hangar 45 at Yatesbury, Newlands in Waterlooville and Rochester Riverside. He is also project landscape architect for St Paul's School, London.

Lucy Fair MEng (Hons), MLA, CMLI

Lucy began her career as a structural engineer in London, where she was involved in the refurbishment of several historic buildings as well as a number of landscape and masterplanning schemes. Following completion of her postgraduate degree, Lucy spent a year working as a landscape architect in Edinburgh before moving to Bath, where her work included a number of large-scale regeneration schemes in London. Lucy joined Grant Associates in the summer of 2008 and is looking forward to working on projects that seek to find innovative and sustainable landscape design solutions. Current projects include the Newlands Common urban development scheme and the redesign of an FE college campus in central Oxford.

Nick Bailey BA (Hons), Dip LA, CMLI, MSILA

Nick joined Grant Associates in 2007 to work as site resident landscape architect at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. He graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1997, and has since worked for leading practices in London and Hong Kong with an emphasis on large international projects across Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East. More recently Nick has been broadening his skills in the construction phases of work, notably overseeing the final stages of landscape construction work at Heathrow's Terminal 5, before making his way to tropical Singapore. He has been a chartered member of the Landscape Institute since 2003 and a memberof the Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects 2008.

Peter Morris BA (Hons), BArch, RIBA PIII

In 2009 Peter joined the Gardens by the Bay site team in Singapore as site representative for the Supertrees. Prior to joining Grant Associates he worked for a year on the concept design team for Singapore's new National Stadium. After qualifying as an architect in the UK Peter spent 3 years in Manchester working for a leading design practice on a number of high profile education projects. Highlights include a new student centre and 1000-seat lecture theatre for the University of Manchester, and an acclaimed performing arts centre for De La Salle School. Special interests include digital visualization techniques and graphic design. Peter particularly enjoys working with specialist creative design disciplines to ensure that all aspects of a project are developed to their full potential.

Robert Davies BCom, Dip LA, AILA

Since graduating from Melbourne University, Rob has worked as a consultant on projects ranging from major infrastructure works to landscape masterplanning and the design of residential developments. His experience includes work on projects in Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, India and mainland China. He has developed a keen interest in the detail design and construction of landscapes and has experience in the construction of wetlands, flood protection bund walls and public spaces. Rob joined Grant Associates in 2008 to work as Senior Landscape Architect at Gardens by the Bay, based in Singapore. Rob is an accredited member of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA).

Chin-Jung Chen MA (Hons)

Studied Architecture Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan 1998-2003; Studied Architectural Design at UCL (University College London), the Bartlett 2004-2005; Studying Landscape Architecture Diploma at Kingston University, 2007-2009
Chin has been working at Grant Associates since January 2006 and is currently working on Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, and Jodrell Bank. She is interested in conceptual approaches to landscape architecture and has participated in some winning competitions with Grant Associates, for example Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester and Bird Island in Kuala Lumpur.

Lise joined Grant Associates in 2006 and has been part of the design teams for Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and Park Hill in Sheffield. Lise started her design career in the costume arts, and is motivated by shifting scales of design.

Melissa Orr MA (Hons)

Having spent her year-out work placement at Grant Associates, Melissa returned in 2007 after graduating. Her special interests include using graphics through from conceptual to detail design to inspire landscapes with the emphasis not only on the scenic but also the sublime, sombre, productive, ecological, healing, dynamic, lively and quirky. She believes in the integration of natural systems with people and their environments to create landscapes full of colour, texture and the rhythms of life. Melissa was part of the winning team for the Singapore Gardens by the Bay masterplan and is currently working on the design development.

Paula Gillan MA (Hons) First Class

Paula joined Grant Associates in December 2009, having previously worked for a year in Dublin and having interned in Florida as part of her masters degree. She also studied in Canada as an exchange student where she became interested in the application of ecology and its integration into contemporary landscape architecture in an urban context. Paula enjoys working through a range of scales from strategic masterplanning to bespoke detailed design.

Will Day BA (Hons), Dip LA, CMLI

Will joined Grant Associates in June 2006 after studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture at the University of Gloucestershire, where he graduated with a distinction. During his final year his portfolio was shortlisted for the Midlands Branch of the Landscape Institute's John Knight Prize. With a first degree in Fine Art Sculpture, he is particularly interested in the conceptual approaches to landscape architecture, and the ever-blurring boundaries between landscape, fine art and architecture. Will is currently involved with the Gardens by the Bay project in Singapore. He is also working on Bristol Metropolitan College which is part of the government's Building Schools for the Future initiative.

Yong Hoe joined Grant Associates in 2009, following four years with Forum Architects, SMC Alsop and Consortium 168 which entailed detail design, project management and site supervision. He has been involved in a wide range of projects including housing, shopping malls, schools and offices. He is currently working on Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

Ruth Thorp BSc (Hons) First Class

Having completed two summer placements with Grant Associates, Ruth has returned after receiving a First Class Honours degree in Architecture from the University of Bath. Her main focus is design for people, believing that landscape design should ultimately meet the needs of the users in providing successful, beautiful spaces that inspire and function efficiently, and that can be enjoyed. Ruth was part of the winning teams for Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and Bird Island, Malaysia and is currently working on sport and leisure projects including the Olympic VeloPark and Scunthorpe Sports Academy and Parks Project.

Daniel Holmes

Daniel works for Grant Associates on a part-time basis while studying Architecture. He has graduated with a distinction from Saint Martin's College in a foundation in Art and Architecture. Daniel's architectural heroes include Louis Kahn, Frank Lloyd Wright and Christopher Alexander, and his interests extend to furniture design as well as the built environment. Daniel is mainly involved with the Gardens by the Bay project in Singapore.

After finishing his third year at Cardiff University, Jimmy started his year-out placement at Grant Associates in September 2009, while continuing his fourth year studies. Jimmy has previously worked in Beijing and has an interest in the benefits of the built environment. He is mainly involved with the Gardens by the Bay project in Singapore.

Amber recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a postgraduate degree in Landscape Architecture. She joined Grant Associates in 2009, and hopes to complete a year out position before returning to university to further study the relationship between politics and infrastructure. Amber previously worked in Manchester where she was involved in a range of small scale projects. Special interests include conceptual design and creative masterplanning, using minimal interventions to provoke reactions in the landscape.

Philip joined Grant Associates in June 2009 after working for two years in Dubai. He has experience working on a variety of projects in the Middle East including hotels and resorts, business parks, recreational parks and the development of streetscapes and public spaces in large mixed-use developments. Philip is currently working on the Gardens by the Bay project and is based in Singapore.

Linda Lucking

Linda has worked for Grant Associates since 2002, bringing with her many years' experience gained throughout her career in management and accounting within various industries, including mail order, entertainment and aviation.

Nicky Kelly
Office Manager
Nicky's role at Grant Associates is to ensure that the office runs smoothly on every level.She joined the team in December 2008, bringing with her a wealth of office and management experience gained throughout her career both in the UK and overseas.

Julie Davies BSc Dip Lang

Studied Environmental Science and Mandarin Chinese at the University of Melbourne, Australia
Julie joined Grant Associates in 2009 to assist the resident team at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore during the construction phase of the project. Julie has five years experience in environmental consulting and has gained extensive experience in site investigation, risk assessment, remediation techniques, statutory environmental audits, environmental impact assessment and management of environmental compliance for large scale construction projects. Prior to moving to Singapore Julie was employed with GHD Pty Ltd. As a Project Manager Julie was responsible for the management and delivery of multiple environmental projects at any one time, often within multi-disciplinary teams. She has a strong interest in Chinese language and culture.

Natasha Clarkson
Finance Assistant/Document Controller
Natasha joined Grant Associates in June 2008. She is studying AAT at college and her primary role is assisting the Finance Director with daily accounting tasks. She also provides administrative support for Gardens by the Bay, Singapore.

Werawit Lueangsanthong BSc(Hons)

Since graduation Werawit worked as a Freelance Landscape Architect at The National Discovery Museum Institute in Bangkok involved in roof garden and signage design. Following this he has worked in Singapore with a range of projects such as master planning, high-end residential (including hotels) and some international competitions.Werawit joined Grant Associates in 2010 to work as a Landscape Architect at Gardens by the Bay, based in Singapore.

Ewan joined Grant Associates in 2010 as a 3d modeller. He has worked in Italy and Denmark and was part of an Architectural team for designing furniture, brand experience and producing 3D models of structures and their components. Ewan is also interested in design and architecture, generating fresh and innovative ideas within 3D design and animation.

Lei joined Grant Associates in 2010.She originally studied in Beijing and gained her Bachelor degree in England.Having found her passion to be in graphic design she then completed her Masters degree. Since then Lei has worked in Manchester and Oxford as a graphic designer and has been involved in a large range of branding, corporate identity, advertising, artwork and illustrations. Lei is enthusiastic about urban design and landscape architecture as well as being a freelance photographer.
